Kentucky physician barred from prescribing drugs after being caught with methamphetamine

Pikeville, Ky.-based psychiatrist Jason Stamper, DO, has been barred from prescribing drugs after being charged with heroin trafficking and methamphetamine possession, Lexington Herald Leader reported Dec. 19.

Dr. Stamper was arrested Dec. 15 after police searched his home, according to the report. Police found a bag with white residue consistent with meth, multiple baggies of a drug used to treat ADHD, as well as scales, pipes and bags containing a suspected drug residue.

The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure said there was cause to believe his "practice constituted a danger to the health, welfare and safety of his patients and the public,"' according to the report.
