Thomas Cavalieri, DO, has been selected to serve as the inaugural senior vice provost of the Virtua Health College of Medicine and Life Sciences at Rowan University in Stratford, N.J.
University President Ali Houshmand, PhD, announced the appointment in a letter Feb. 1. The college was developed through a year-old partnership between Rowan University and Virtua Health, the largest health system in Southern New Jersey.
The partnership encompasses the osteopathic medical school, an expanded nursing and allied health professions school and a new school of translational biomedical engineering.
Dr. Cavalieri has served as dean of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, the only osteopathic medical school in New Jersey, since 2006. He is also the Osteopathic Heritage Endowed Chair for primary care research and a professor of medicine.
Dr. Cavalieri is the founding director of the Center of Aging at the school, which has developed into the Rowan-Virtua New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging. In addition to serving as senior vice provost, he will be the chief academic officer of Virtua Health.
