Jose Romano, MD, is the new chair of the department of neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Serving as interim chair since January 2023 and acting chair for five months prior, he has significantly expanded the stroke program and neurology coverage within the Miami-based Jackson Health System, now spanning three hospitals with plans for a fourth.
A faculty member since 1997, Dr. Romano has been pivotal in advancing the department's clinical and research capabilities. His leadership has boosted the department’s U.S. News & World Report ranking to 20th and increased NIH funding to over $15 million in 2023. Dr. Romano's vision aims to further enhance the department's reputation and capabilities, striving for continued excellence in patient care, research and education.
