Edward McGookin, MD, has been promoted to president of Providence, R.I.-based Coastal Medical, according to an Oct. 30 report from Providence Business News.
Dr. McGookin has been at the practice for 24 years, working first as a general pediatric provider before being promoted to chief medical officer.
Dr. McGookin succeeded G. Alan Kurose, MD, who transitioned to a role at Lifespan Corp. after 14 years as Coastal Medical's president. Coastal Medical is part of Lifespan health system.
Dr. McGookin's presidency became effective Oct. 20. He is also a professor at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence.
"In this new role, my commitment to enhancing Coastal's team-based primary care model and Lifespan's population health strategy will only grow stronger," Dr. McGookin told Business News.
