Inability to exchange information with other electronic health record systems was the leading factor behind practices' decisions to switch systems, according to Medscape's 2023 "Physicians and Electronic Health Records Report."
The report surveyed 1,476 physicians across over 29 specialties between March 6 and May 23.
Here are the top reasons for switching electronic health record systems:
- Can't exchange information with other EHRs: 45%
- Want to merge inpatient and outpatient EHRs: 43%
- Difficulties in clinical documentation: 42%
- Difficulties in pulling data for quality reporting: 33%
- Issues with practice management module: 23%
- Lack of population health management features: 15%
- Can't use cloud storage: 12%
- Other: 23%
