Physician telehealth use declined in 2022

Thirty-nine percent of physicians reported using telemedicine less in 2022 compared to 2021, according to a report by Medical Economics.

The "Physician Report" for 2023, published Aug. 4, surveyed physicians of multiple specialties on salaries, productivity, malpractice rates, the state of the profession and more. 

Here is a breakdown of physician telehealth use in 2022:

• Thirty-nine percent of physicians reported using telemedicine less in 2022 compared to 2021, while 28 percent said they conducted more telemedicine visits in 2022. In 2021, 49 percent reported conducting more telemedicine visits than the year prior.

• Twenty-two percent of physicians reported using telehealth about the same as they did in 2022, and 11 percent indicated they did not know if they used telehealth more or less in 2022 compared to 2021.

• Nineteen percent of physicians reported they did not conduct any telehealth visits in 2022.
