Eleven specialties saw year-over-year starting salary growth in 2024, according to an Aug. 1 analysis published by healthcare staffing firm AMN Healthcare.
The "Review of Physician and Advanced Practitioner Recruiting Incentives" for 2024 compiled compensation and incentive data from 2,138 permanent physician and advanced practitioner recruitment engagements from April 1, 2023 to March 31.
Below are the 11 physician specialties that saw increases in the average starting salary offered to providers in 2023-24 compared with that of the previous 12-month period, along with the percent increase year over year.

- Dermatology: $486,000 (13.8%)
- Orthopedic surgery: $686,000 (8.4%)
- Neurology: $383,000 (8.2%)
- Family medicine: $271,000 (6.7%)
- Internal medicine: $271,000 (6.7%)
- Obstetrics/gynecology: $367,000 (6%)
- Anesthesiology: $460,000 (6%)
- Gastroenterology: $531,000 (4.9%)
- Radiology: $495,000 (4.9%)
- Pediatrics: $244,000 (4.7%)
- Hematology/oncology: $444,000 (0.9%)
