A West Lake Hills, Texas-based physician-owned hospital, The Hospital at Westlake, has closed its emergency department months after filing for bankruptcy, according to a statement on the hospital's Facebook page.
Here are three things to know:
1. The closure, which took effect Dec. 29, came after the hospital filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September.
2. The hospital will remain open and is "taking the necessary steps to provide notice to our community partners, appropriate agencies, referral sources, and posting notifications on our website and social media outlets," the post said.
3. The hospital filed for bankruptcy in an effort to manage debt that existed before the COVID-19 pandemic but has since been exacerbated by inflation, rising costs of labor, supplies and drugs and labor shortages.
