A physician's office in Pennsylvania confirmed it was the target of a cybersecurity attack in early February, according to a Feb. 20 report from ABC affiliate WPVI.
Lehigh Valley Health Network said in a statement that a physician practice in Lackawanna County was targeted by ransomware gang BlackCat when unauthorized activity was detected Feb. 6.
"Our initial analysis shows that the incident involved a computer system used for clinically appropriate patient images for radiation oncology treatment and other sensitive information," LVHN President and CEO of Brian Nester, DO, said in a statement shared with WPVI.
Lehigh Valley Health Network engaged both cybersecurity firms and experts, along with involving law enforcement, in the wake of the attack. Dr. Nester said the health system's operations have not been disrupted and that it refused to pay ransom to BlackCat.
