Four radiation oncology physician groups have partnered to push for improved access to quality cancer care across the United States.
The American College of Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology joined together with the goal of reforming radiation oncology Medicare payments, which have been cut by 23% since 2013, according to a Jan. 9 news release.
"As four of the largest groups representing innovative and comprehensive cancer care, our coalition will leverage its wealth of expertise across the spectrum of health policy and economics to ensure the practice of radiation oncology remains sustainable in both community and hospital-based settings to the benefit of cancer patients for many years to come," ACRO President Dwight Heron, MD, said in the release.
