2 hematologists receive mentorship award

Two hematologists were honored with the 2022 Mentor Awards by the American Hematology Society at its annual meeting and exposition Dec. 11 in New Orleans. The award is given annually to two hematologists dedicated to developing their trainees and colleagues, according to a Dec. 11 news release from the organization.

One of the recipients, Christopher Flowers, MD, serves as the chair of lymphoma and myeloma at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Flowers also co-developed the AHS Minority Recruitment Initiative and was honored for his commitment to mentoring underrepresented minorities.


The other recipient, Michael Caligiuri, MD, is president of City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Calif., and has mentored more than 100 medical and scientific professionals during his more than 30-year career. Dr. Caligiuri is also involved in the support of the AHS’ Minority Medical Student award program.
